Name: Cadmus Armand Gaunt
Age: 22
Blood Status: Pureblood
House/School: Slytherin/Hogwarts
Wand: 13½" ebony with a phoenix feather core, slightly springy
Ministry Position: Interrogator of the Interrogation Office under the Department for Magical Law Enforcement
Appearance: Cadmus is a wiry young man standing at 6'2''. He is roguishly handsome with gold-brown hair, his eyes a darker shade of green.
Reputation: As a son of the Head Auror, it is often whispered that he got his position in the ministry through nepotism as he was initially interested in joining the Obliviators, but his father had supposedly deemed the office insufficient for a Gaunt.
Family Reputation(s): Descendants of Salazar Slytherin and Cadmus Peverell, the Gaunt family is wealthy and well-esteemed among the pureblood "nobility" of the wizarding world, its members known for being drawn to the grandeur.
History:
Born in the Gaunt family mansion in Little Hangleton, Cadmus was brought up by the family servants rather than his actual parents. His father had been strict and demanding with him, his mother cold and impersonal. It wasn't until the age five or six that Cadmus noticed the special treatment that befell his younger brother Leander as the latter was regarded with what could have been described as mild affection and admiration by both their parents. Perhaps it was because Leander took after their Malfoy mother in both looks and nature whereas Cadmus was slightly too lively for their taste. The image the Gaunts maintained in the eyes of the wizarding world was, of course, that of a perfect family.
In spite of the numerous quarrels between the two brothers, they were still thick as thieves. Family was all they knew and it was not as if there were many playmates to be found in that gloomy little muggle village they lived in. Years passed, but Leander's arrogant and vicious demeanor did not, adding a new violent side to their sibling rivalry and causing Cadmus to feel nothing but contempt for his younger brother. He was spared of it upon arriving at Hogwarts and getting sorted into his ancestor's house. Slytherin was clearly more of a home to him than the Gaunt manor ever had been, and Cadmus was dreading the day his brother was to join him. It was at Hogwarts that he heard of his mother's death. Despite everything, he was still immensely saddened by the news.
When Cadmus returned home the following spring, he was furious to find severe bruises on his little sister's arms and collarbone, which was something their grieving father had clearly missed. While usually covered by long sleeves, the contusions emerged when young Aurelia switched her dark velvet dress for a lighter summer gown. And so it happened that on a damp summerday, when the three Gaunt children were once again down by the black river just off their estate, Leander slipped and tumbled into the water. The current could not have been too strong, but perhaps the boy hit his head against a rock on his way in, or got his foot trapped under a stuck branch. Either way, his head went under the water quickly as his siblings stood on the steep riverbank, watching. He came up for air three, maybe four times.
It was a good ten minutes later that the remaining Gaunt siblings made their way back home, Cadmus covered in mud. Oddly enough, the house seemed almost serene after that incident. Ironically, the family runespoor's two heads bit off the third one not too long after.
Slowly, Cadmus regained his confidence and thrived at Hogwarts, excelling both in charms and curses among other areas of magic, but his true skill lay in delving into the minds of others. Taught by the school's hidden prodigy, the caretaker, Cadmus had soon learned all there was from him, and looked to other ways of exploring his talents, mostly in secret. A chaser on the quidditch team by his fourth year and a school prefect by his fifth, it was no wonder that he was a shoe-in for an office job at the Ministry once it opened. Originally aspiring to join the Obliviators, the idea did not quite agree with his father Markus, who had him moved to the Magical Law Enforcement Department instead.
