The year is 1707. The first year of the New Ministry as the sole governing body, having previously being running in tandem to the Council of Wizards. Now the Council Chief of the Wizards' Council, Ullick Gamp has retired and the Previous Supreme Mugwump of the British Seats of the International Confederation of Wizards, Kastra Urquart, has taken the position of the first Minister for Magic.
The Ministry was created to be a more structured version of the Wizards' Council after the signing of the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy was brought in to put a stop to anti wizarding sentiments from muggles.
The signing of the statute had been met with mixed reactions when it happened, with many opposing it. Some saying that if muggles were a threat they should be dealt with rather than wizards having to hide. Others thought it was a long time coming, and that the suspicious nature of the muggle meant they could never live side by side in earnest.
The ministry is now in several divisions, all with their own heads, in order to more effectively deal with both a growing population and the new demands for secrecy.
However, grumbles from people have been ignited once more with the dissolution of the Wizards' Councils and are being fuelled by great rumblings fro the north, whispering of revolution.
Meanwhile, in Hogwarts, life goes on. The Triwizard tournement is being held at Hogwarts, and a win is hoped for after Beauxbatons Academy of Magic has won the last five tournements in a row.
