Ten years ago, in 1697, there was a great disaster that happened at the opening of the first levels of the new ministry building.
This time rather than just loss of structure, nothing in the new offices were toucher, but the human sacrifice had been much higher.
A last few wizards who actively strove for visibility to the muggle community attacked the ceremony opening the offices, this time unleashing the killing curse and murdering at least ten people.
Some of the bodies were never recovered, as they vanished away as the assailants fled, and were not found with them upon their capture no more than a year later.
